We stopped at “Wainapanapa State Park. This is the location of a black sand beach. It is formed when lava flowed and fountained into the sea where it shattered on contact with the ocean. Fragments smashed against each other and formed the sand on the beach. It was really different. I wanted to take a small lava rock home but we all know that’s a big NO NO. Legend has it that it will give you bad luck! We hiked up one side along the beach on the lava rocks it was an awesome view it looked like the moon. It was an absolutely beautiful view!
