Wednesday
We got up early and headed out to the road to Hana. The road to Hana is two lanes with lots of one-lane bridges and really winding roads. It was an all day road trip. We stopped at a few roadside stands once for a brownie with macadamia nuts and a fruit smoothie later for lunch for bar-b-qued pork and rice. We saw a lot of waterfalls, lava tubes and swimming pools craved from the lava and ocean. It was really beautiful. There were really pretty trees with orange flowers and poinsettias. That was pretty neat I’d never seen them on a tree before just in pots at Christmas. According to the Maui Revealed book the “Road to Hana is without question the most famous and desired drive in all of Hawaii, the crown jewel of driving. It’s been compared to driving through the Garden of Eden; a slow, winding road through a lush paradise that you always knew existed—somewhere.
At the risk of sounding like a Chinese fortune cookie, fulfillment lies in the journey, not the destination.
